At this point I know only the very basics, and I can communicate only a little (like traveling to Paris after your first year of high school French), but I did learn to get my point across in most cases after much nonsense and babbling. For me, learning code is like learning a new language, a new system of signs. But others are not as clear:, which stands, I presume for emphasis, provides italics. Some of these commands are pretty intuitive: indicates a new paragraph underlines the selected text. Even after this experience, I would not say that I am anywhere near competent as a coder, but I did learn how to do some of the basics:, ,, ,, etc. Although I was using a template, so most of the CSS work was done for me, I had to learn some of the basics of HTML coding in order to alter its format to fit my needs. This attitude changed once I began work on my web text. I enjoyed skipping from webpage to webpage, but I never gave much thought to how they were designed or what was behind the interface. Prior to this project, I had never done any HTML coding. You will learn to code (at least a little).
The format also allowed me to fully incorporate the GIFs I discuss throughout the course of my analysis.
The paper would be spread out throughout a number of webpages that could be accessed non-linearly. They take advantage of the multimodal delivery and nonlinear access of digital rhetoric, and they can include (or be made up primarily of) videos, images, animations, etc.įor my web text, I decided to create a website that would house my paper about fans’ rhetorical use of GIFs.
Web texts, as the name suggests, are texts that are designed specifically for publication on the web. This semester, I created my first web text.
